about me is that I hate (that's a strong word) using lotion.
Really, I can't stand the sliminess of if. Or how I can't open a door after lathering up without leaving a grease mark on the handle. Or how I can't open anything, for that matter, because I can't get a good enough grip to twist that lid.
Silly, huh?
Just the other day, however, I noticed another woman's hands and thought, they are so soft. And supple. And not cracked. Wow. that's novel. I won't lie, I was a wee bit jealous.
The downside to not liking lotion is having constantly dry hands. Particularly when you live in Utah, perhaps the driest place on this planet. My hands (at this very moment) are so dry and rough I think I am permanently damaging my uniquely-mine finger prints. Really and truly my fingers snag on just about everything. My hair. Raymond's Sunday tie. Ginny's soft baby cheeks. Then they crack and bleed.
It's embarrassing, actually. I need to get over this, don't you think? I need start consistently using lotion.
Because not just my hands are suffering here. I am one dry, flaky mess all over. (Was that too graphic?)
I've mastered the art of washing my hands (which I do approximately fifty billion times a day... and which is probably contributing greatly to my rough hand, dry skin problem), so I need to at least dabble in the art of using lotion.
Any recommendations? Something I can get at the grocery store but that's not a bottle of grease?

I have an Aveeno lotion that I adore (though I am, admittedly, a lotion person)--it's all lavendery and relaxy. Also, you may try just using lotion before you go to bed at night at first. That way it'll annoy you less, but it should still help!
I'm with Jess here. I prefer Aveeno and whenever I have to put greasy stuff on, I do it at night. My feet crack something horribly. And boy do I know about snags. I wore a hole through our 600 thread count sheets with my feet! So I use Udder Balm on those but it is so greasy I often can't bring myself to put it on. So I'll put it on my feet then put on socks so I don't have to feel the greasiness again. And then I go to sleep and forget about it and it's all better by morning.
What??? Not a lotion girl? How did I not know this. I'm obsessed with putting lotion on everyday after my shower and then have to have it after I wash my hands. My hands also crack and bleed when I'm working because I wash them so darn much. My favorite is "no crack cream" which you have to get in CA at Restoration Hardware. Maybe mom can get you some...it's truly the best and I don't think it's greasy AT ALL.
I did not know this about you either. I love a lotion called Gold Bond Ultimate. It is the best stuff. You can get it at Walmart, and maybe even the grocery store. Brian bought it for me a couple of years ago and I have been hooked ever since. It is a thicker lotion and not as greasy as some. I have really dry skin using lotion, so I do not even know how you do it. They also have a gold bond Ultimate hand sanitizer that is a lotion hand sanitizer. it is pretty great too.
To truly get rid of cracks, I have found that Aquaphor (yeah, the stuff for babies, too) is the very best. But to put it on without getting greasy (and I do this with other lotions, too), I just squeeze the lotion onto the back of my hand and rub the backs of my hands together so that my palms don't get all gross.
When I first moved to Utah my hands would crack and bleed. I slathered on body butter all the time. My skin has adjusted, but it still gets dry in the winter. I use Jergens Ultra all over my body and my favorite hand lotion is from Bath and Body Works. It's True Blue Spa Look Ma New Hands lotion. Good luck!
I like true blue spa also.
I do what Brittany does, lotion on the back of my hands. I also like to put it on before bed. I use Avon's MOISTURE THERAPY Intensive Treatment Hand Cream. My sister gave me a bottle my freshman year at BYU and I have bought this ever since. Good luck!
