(Note: camera batteries are on my shopping list. Phone pictures follow. Proceed with caution.)
I've been wanting to make a fabric birthday banner for about a year now (since Jeremy's birthday last year, I think). This year I was bound and determined to do it. I've gone back and forth and up and down on just what I wanted it to look like, however. There are scads of tutorials out there, but most of them are of the triangle variety (like this). A few are squared. Most are appliqued. And well, meh, I just wasn't in the mood to applique. Or iron on. Not that I think I went with much of a simpler route (although, maybe, I don't know), but it is a bit more original and not as big (which was another goal). It also lends itself to adjustments (thank goodness!) such as adding a name or a different event all together or, heck, the whole alphabet to be strung up in a play room someday. Yes, I think that last one is a definite possibility.
So without further ado, here is the official Christiansen Birthday Banner of 2010. (ps pretend you see a beautiful plate of cupcakes on the table below the banner all festive-like)
(Um, yes, I do realize it says "Birtday" instead of "Birthday." It did, for the record, take me a full 6 hours of it hanging on my wall before I noticed, however)
Two little button holes in each letter make the whole thing just about as versitle as it gets. (Thus an H will be added to Birtday shortly).
Next up: a valentine's banner of the same variety with lots of reds and pinks and hearts. Happy!

SO SO SO CUTE!! I stinkin love it. Definatly not easier then ironing on if you are not going to sew down, but seriously so so CUTE!!!! I love that it is orginal too. PLEASE get batteries for your camera. I want to post about this one. Carly, it is fabulous. A crack up about the H, but you can always had them later. With my Valentine's Day banner I strung it like you did this one, and I just love it too. So fun Carly. Way to go!!
That is very cute Carly, and hilarious about the H. I'm sure I would have gone years without noticing, I didnt even notice in the picture.
So cute. I like that you use letters instead of triangles. I think you should leave the H out it makes it more special.
LOVE IT! I am just going to start turning in my requests for things! :)
I'm loving this banner!!! I also like how the letters are strung on. Very fun!
Ooh that turned out very very cute. I think the spelling error is cute too. It sounds like you're just imitating the way a toddler says it. :) I am going to be making a paper one like you did last year for Weston's birthday this year! Can't wait!
SO CUTE! I really need to get into the creativity circle that you are Tasha belong to!
I love that idea. I've seen the other varieties but really like your letters. I may have to "borrow" it sometime.
I love this banner! I think I might make one just like it. I plan on making a valentine banner out of paper. I think it will be easier than sewing. Therefore I will actually get it done! :)
I love that idea! I might have to copy it....and maybe I'm weird but I like that it says happy birtday! It adds a little fun to the day.
